Stéphane Kerecki est né à Paris en 1970. Après des études supérieures d’économie à Paris II (DEA), il entre au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris où il étudie la contrebasse avec Jean‐François Jenny‐Clark, Riccardo Del Fra et Jean Paul Celea. Ses premiers engagements l’amènent à intégrer le quartet de Steve Potts et à devenir le premier bassiste du Paris Jazz Big Band.
Depuis une vingtaine d’années, Stéphane Kerecki s’est produit dans les groupes de Denis Colin, Guillaume de Chassy, Yaron Herman, Daniel Humair, François Jeanneau, Sheila Jordan, Steve Lehman, Ronnie Lynn Patterson, Michel Portal, Anne Paceo, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Thomas Savy, Jacky Terrasson…
Par ailleurs, il est gratifié en 2001 du 2e prix de Soliste au Concours International de Jazz de Paris La Défense (seul contrebassiste nommé) et, en 2005, le magazine «Jazzman» le classe parmi les 125 talents pour demain.
En 2003, il crée son propre trio formé avec le saxophoniste Matthieu Donarier et le batteur Thomas Grimmonprez. Il enregistre deux disques avec ce trio "Story Tellers" et "Focus Danse" pour lesquels il reçoit de nombreuses récompenses : Grand Prix 2007 de
l’«Académie Charles Cros», Disque d’Emoi de l’année 2007 (Jazz Magazine), Choc du Monde de la Musique …
Son 3e opus "Houria" invite le saxophoniste américain Tony Malaby (Charlie Haden, Paul Motian, Daniel Humair, Michel Portal…) à se joindre au trio. Ce disque lui permet d'être nommé aux «victoires du Jazz 2009» dans la catégorie révélation instrumentale.
En 2010, Il poursuit sa collaboration avec le label Zig‐Zag territoires en enregistrant pour ce label le CD "Patience" avec le pianiste anglais John Taylor (Kenny Wheeler, John Surman, Jan Garbarek, Miroslav Vitous, Peter Erskine…). Ce disque est salué par un «CHOC de l’année 2011» du magazine Jazz Magazine / Jazzman. En 2013 il est cité par le magazine comme l'un des 120 duos cultes de l'histoire du Jazz.
En 2012, le trio enregistre son dernier opus "Sound Architects" en compagnie du saxophoniste Tony Malaby et du pianiste serbe Bojan Z (Michel Portal, Henri Texier, Julien Lourau…), pour le label Outnote/Outhere. Ce disque est salué par la presse spécialisée («Indispensable JAZZ NEWS», Sélection SO JAZZ, Elu citizen Jazz, MUST TSF…) et est sélectionné parmi les 3 disques de jazz de l’année 2012 par le quotidien «Libération».
En février 2013, enfin Stéphane Kerecki est nommé parmi les trois finalistes du Prix Django Reinhard (Musicien Français de l’année) de l’«Académie du Jazz».
En 2014, Il enregistre le CD "Nouvelle Vague" avec John Taylor, le saxophoniste Emile Parisien, et le batteur Fabrice Moreau. La chanteuse Jeanne Added rejoint le groupe sur deux titres dont «La chanson de Maxence» de Michel Legrand qui sera saluée par Télérama comme la chanson jazz de l'année 2014. Ce CD reçoit entre autres distinctions, un Choc de Jazz Magazine, FFFF Télérama, et le Prix de l’«Académie du Jazz», récompensant le Meilleur Disque de Jazz enregistré par un Musicien Français.
En 2015, il est lauréat des Talents Jazz ADAMI, il est cité parmi les trois musiciens de l'année 2014 par Jazz magazine et le CD Nouvelle Vague reçoit la "Victoire du jazz du Meilleur Disque de l'Année 2015".
En 2016 et 2017 il participe à deux trios pour lesquels il écrit une partie du répertoire : le trio "Modern Art" fondé par Daniel Humair et auquel s’ajoute le saxophoniste Vincent Lê Quang, et le trio Aïrès fondé par le pianiste Edouard Ferlet et la trompettiste Airelle Besson. Ces deux projets sont unanimement salués par la critique (le Monde, Télérama etc…)
En 2018 sort chez Incises Records son nouvel opus "French Touch" en quartet avec Emile Parisien, Fabrice Moreau et le pianiste Belge Jozef Dumoulin autour des standards de l'électro-pop française. Le CD est plébiscité par la presse spécialisée : "CHOC Jazz Magazine", "Incontournable" Jazz News.
En 2019 il coécrit et coproduit le nouvel Opus de Daniel Humair "Drum Thing" avec Vincent Lê Quang et Yoann Loustalot. En 2020 il commence une nouvelle collaboration sur scène avec le Pianiste Thomas Enhco autour de "Folk Songs".

Stéphane Kerecki was born in Paris in 1970. After studying economics at the University of Paris II, he entered the Paris National Conservatory where he studied bass with Jean-François Jenny-Clark, Riccardo Del Fra and Jean Paul Celea.
For the past twenty years, Stéphane Kerecki has appeared in the groups of Denis Colin, Guillaume de Chassy, Yaron Herman, Daniel Humair, François Jeanneau, Sheila Jordan, Steve Lehman, Ronnie Lynn Patterson, Michel Portal, Anne Paceo, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Thomas Savy, Jacky Terrasson ...
In 2001, he was awarded second soloist prize at the Paris International Jazz Competition of La Défense (only bassist named) and in 2005, "Jazzman" magazine ranked him among the 125 talents for tomorrow.
In 2003, he created his own trio formed with saxophonist Matthieu Donarier and drummer Thomas Grimmonprez. He recorded two CDs with this trio "Story Tellers" and "Focus Dance" for which he receives numerous awards: Grand Prix 2007 of the "Charles Cros Academy", “Emoi” Record of the Year 2007 (Jazz Magazine), CHOC of “le Monde de la Musique”…

In 2016 and 2017 he participated in two trios for which he wrote a part of the repertoire: the trio “Modern Art” founded by Daniel Humair and to which was added the saxophonist Vincent Lê Quang, and the trio “Aïres” founded by the pianist Edouard Ferlet and the trumpet player Airelle Besson. These two projects are unanimously hailed by the critics (Le Monde, Télérama etc ...)
In september 2018, Incises Records released his new album "French Touch" in quartet with Emile Parisien, Fabrice Moreau and Belgian pianist Jozef Dumoulin around the standards of French electro-pop. This record has received unanimous criticism from the press: "CHOC" jazz magazine,"Incontournable" Jazz News.
In 2019 he co-wrote and co-produced Daniel Humair's new Opus "Drum Thing" with Vincent Lê Quang and Yoann Loustalot. In 2020 he begins a new collaboration on stage with the pianist Thomas Enhco around “Folk Songs”.
